THE BLOXIDGE TALLYGRAPH

Bloxwich Football

by Andrew Perrins, 2009.

A team of lads, they played a game,

Bloxwich Strollers were their name.

In 1893, they were found.

Little Bloxwich Lanes’ football ground,

This was their site in ninety-five,

How great, these fine men did strive.

Footer men made of hard strong iron,

Played in a field by the Red Lion.

Six more years, they were at Leamore,

Always on the ball, always on the score.

By 1910, the club’s quarters stood,

On that site, so grand so good.

Nineteen-thirty, the club changed hand,

Next year the Strollers did disband.

Bloxwich F.C., were the boys in town,

To take on the Strollers’ crown.

But after World War II, they flew again,

Birmingham & District League, in the reign.

Years they go by, some good, some sad!

The campaign of 83/4, the best they had.

To combine again in a vast situation,

F. C. were back in the Midland Combination.

Bloxwich Strollers were back in ‘86,

Promoted in Division One, full of kicks.

Nineteen eighty-nine, F.C. were the champs,

Holding the league by the clamps.

The 90’s saw the Strollers score,

Moving from two to one across the floor.

Ninety-eight, Premier League closed shop,

No more celebrations on the pop.

Bloxwich F.C. then became Bloxwich Town,

They won, they lost, they raised a frown.

With Blakenall, to claim mid table berth,

Securing themselves well upon the turf.

Bloxwich and Blakenall gave good as did get,

Have not become Bloxwich United F.C. yet!

In 2003, Bloxwich Town were tops again,

After such a long and very brave strain.

In Midlands Combination Division One,

The winning formula went on and on.

But alas, good things are no more alive,

Bloxwich Town club ceased to be, 2005!

From the ashes, came Bloxwich United A.F.C,

A most powerful team for all to see.

Their first game was against Walsall XI,

A match akin to football heaven.

At the Old Red Lion ground in 2008,

Surely the start of a team so great.
