Go nuts about nature at King George Playing Fields

Part of the new Conservation Area at King George V Playing Fields (SW)

Dateline: 16 October 2009

Local people who are nuts about nature are being offered the chance to take part in free family learning activities in Bloxwich this half term.

Visitors to King George V Playing Fields, off Stafford Road, will be able to explore the new nature Conservation Area there for the first time on Saturday 31 October, as part of a special event hosted by the Friends of Bloxwich Parks, Walsall Council, the Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and Black Country and New Horizons Community Enterprise.

Activities on the day are set to include a big bug hunt, bulb planting, an opportunity to learn about Lichens and a "feely box challenge", all celebrating the Conservation Area and encouraging more people to visit the site and enjoy it.

Kate Frost, secretary of The Friends of Bloxwich Parks group said: “The event is a family day with lots of things to do so we hope local people will come along to learn about nature, have fun and help us to celebrate the nature area by visiting us on the day and taking part.”

The conservation area has been developed by the Friends group with funding from BBC Breathing Places and is supported by Walsall Council.  The half term event is part of the national Campaign for Learning’s Family Learning Festival, so if you are nuts about nature this is a great opportunity to get involved and Do One Thing for Nature this autumn.
