Bloxwich conservation areas review

Consultants Eddie Booth and Chezel Bird visit The Bloxwich Tardis

Dateline:  11 May 2009

Walsall Council recently commissioned an Appraisal and Management Plan for the three Conservation Areas that cover Bloxwich Town Centre.

As part of this, professional consultants The Conservation Studio, together with Walsall Council officer Daniel Carins of Regeneration Services hosted a short talk and a walking tour of the areas on the evening of Thursday 30 April.

Members of the Friends of Bloxwich Parks, the Edditer of The Bloxidge Tallygraph and local historians keen to support the initiative attended the meeting at the Elmore Row Centre and were glad of the opportunity to not only find out about the proposals for reviewing the Conservation Areas and their key features, but to provide additional local input and insight in support of the process.

A short presentation was given by consultants Eddie Booth and Chezel Bird, then participants headed out on an extensive walk comprehensively covering areas centred on Elmore Green, High Street and Bloxwich Park together with an extended route as far out as Wallington Heath and King George V Playing Fields.  During the walk Ms. Bird took photographs to complement their research and both consultants listened to participants as well as outlining their ideas for the Conservation Areas.

A number of concerns and informed opinions were expressed by participants both during the walk and in a discussion that followed on their return.  Their comments, supplementary information and suggestions about negative and positive aspects of the areas covered, features that should be included and their extent have been invited.  Together with the local research done by the consultants who have considerable expertise in this field, these will inform the process which will include further public consultation before any final decisions are made.
