Dateline: 20 October 2009

A bonfire bonanza awaits Walsall residents and visitors with three events lined up over the next few weeks.

Walsall Council’s parks staff have been busy organising bonfires for Bloxwich, Brownhills and Willenhall.

King George V Park is the venue for the Bloxwich bonfire on Saturday 24 October.

Visitors should use the Stafford Road car park entrance, with pedestrians using Bealeys Lane, Stafford Road and Bell Lane.

Parks staff are still appealing for donations of wooden pallets to help the events go with a bang and any businesses that can help are being urged to contact John Millard or John Morris at Walsall Council's parks development team on 07736 388418 or 07736 388409 to arrange delivery.

Councillor Barry Sanders, Walsall Council Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “We’re closer to the bonfire season now and our events traditionally attract thousands of people as they are a safe way to enjoy the celebrations.”

Admission to the bonfires is £3 for adults, £1 for children and free for under 5s. Car parking is £1.

Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult and for safety reasons people are not allowed to bring their own fireworks or sparklers.

Food is available but no alcohol is permitted at the events.

For further info on other Walsall area official bonfires, see the Walsall Council website.
