Five-A-Side Footballers take a break between matches in the Fun Day tournament
Youngsters and parents of Bloxwich alike took time out to enjoy the continuing good weather when they visited King George V Playing Fields on Tuesday 28th August when Walsall Council held one of its local Fun Days.
The Council's latest summer fun event for all the family took place on Tuesday 28 August 10.30am - 4.00pm, in the popular park and sports facility off Stafford Road, Bloxwich.
Entry was free (but charges applied on attractions) . The fun attractions, primarily aimed at youngsters, included inflatables (including a giant slide!), charity stalls, kids rides, music, Punch & Judy and face painting in the Marquee, refreshments, an exciting Five-A-Side football tournament and security marking of bikes by the Bloxwich police.
All the fun of the fair - and more!
The ever-enthusiastic Lower Farm Community Association (from the nearby Lower Farm Estate) fielded a good turnout of committee members and helpers, including Secretary Margaret Bull and her husband Ken. Young people are major beneficiaries of the Lower Farm CA's work, and they also run a Youth Forum, so it was appropriate that they had some young helpers on hand too!

The Golden Wishes charity also had a stall at the Fun Day. They organise events to raise money to "make people's wishes come true". They help children and adults, from the Walsall area, both with terminal and non-life threatening illnesses.
The Golden Wishes charity stall was run by Carina Aston (L) and Ann Dunn (R)
New at this year's event was free entertainment in the Marquee, including an excellent Punch & Judy show, which proved very popular with children of all ages. That's the way to do it!
Punch and Judy in the Marquee went down a storm!
One family was due to win free rides for the afternoon for up to 3 children, by entering a 20p competition to guess the number of sweets in the jar. But everyone was having great fun on everything from the giant inflatable slide to the mini fairground rides, the mini quad bikes and the gladiators "arena".
Gladiators!

The ride of your life?
The Parks Development Team did an excellent job setting up the event, which got off to a slow start from 10.30am but was humming by lunchtime, by which time the sun had also gotten out of bed!
Enthusiastic youngsters also had an exciting opportunity to play in the Five-A-Side football tournament, which was very entertaining, especially for the goalies! The trophies and medals were provided by Lower Farm Community Association.
Plenty of action in the Five-A-Side Tournament!

- and having a rest between matches!
Last but not least, music and quizzes were provided throughout the day by Stuart Rhodes Entertainments, which added to the atmosphere of what really was a great fun day in Bloxwich! Many thanks to the Council staff and all who participated!
